RESEARCH
I am interested in understanding the relative importance of environmental, biotic and contingent factors on determining geographic ranges: why species occur where they do and anywhere else? As a result, I am concern with methodological and conceptual issues of distribution predictive models, such as the meaning of probability of presence or the evaluation of the models. The sources and quantification of bias in the biological data, which may impact the results of the models, have also received part of my attention.
I am particularly interested in arthropods, mainly spiders. I also center my attention on the ecology and biogeography of the endangered Iberian spider Macrothele calpeiana.
Macrothele calpeiana and its potential distribution in the Mediterranean area (see refs. 21 & 49)
